Margin Scan

See what your margin really costs you — on your own data.

Two meetings — 2–4 hours in total — and one pseudonymised data export. That is all it takes on your side to see whether the patterns we typically find are hiding in your numbers too.

2 meetings (2–4 hrs) · 1 pseudonymised data export · no IT project

You know this

Pricing decisions without a clear overall picture.

Discounts and special terms grow across sales and key accounts — without ever coming together in one place. No one can see at a glance what margin per customer or segment really costs.

Your price model lives in spreadsheets that have grown over years. The logic is held by a handful of people — and management rightly wonders whether the numbers can still be relied on.

When management asks about margin development, the answer takes time — or stays vague. Not because the team isn't working, but because the data doesn't come together cleanly enough to explain.

What we typically find.

€60K

Gap between calculated and invoiced margin — invisible in any report, for years.

1 : 13

Price spread for the same article — same period, different customers.

76

Products below target margin: some deliberately priced strategically, some quietly eroding — discovered only years later.

What clients say after the scan.

"The 'article margin vs. revenue' view shows at a glance which products are stars, which are niche — and where we need to reprice. About half of the findings we had on our radar. The other half we genuinely didn't."
Business unit lead, B2B manufacturer
"This is mindblowing. With this accuracy I can even plan my growth with resources."
Managing Director, B2B — after comparing the prediction with actuals: deviation below 1%
"I consider your tool highly effective."

How the scan runs

Four steps. Half a day of your time.

No project, no system access, no IT ticket. Two meetings and one data export — we do the rest.

Data Connections in Valento: file upload and SFTP alongside connectors for Business Central, Dynamics 365, Salesforce and HubSpot — read-only throughout.

01

Briefing and data extract

Your effort: a 60-minute meeting, then one export

We agree which slice of your portfolio is meaningful. You get a checklist from us: which fields, which period, which format. You choose: an export from ERP, BI or Excel — pseudonymised, without clear names — or read-only access if you prefer. Write permissions are never needed.

02

Analysis — one week

Your effort: none

We do the work. You hear nothing from us for a week. Then there is a result: named articles, named customer segments, every finding with an amount and how we got there — plus an ROI calculation on your numbers, not on benchmarks.

03

Results meeting — 90 minutes

Then you decide

We walk through the findings together. You keep the analysis either way. And if the findings are too thin to act on, we say so.

04

If you go further: a system that keeps watching

Optional — nothing happens automatically

The scan is a one-off snapshot taken from an export. For a system to keep watching, it needs a connection to your order and invoice data — an interface rather than a manual export. It then checks cost trends, price floors and customer development continuously and speaks up before the margin drops. What that involves in practice we discuss whenever you want — including before the scan.

Analysis

One week later the result is there.

Your data stays your data: handed over pseudonymised, EU-hosted, deleted when your access ends.

What you have after the results meeting

A still image of your product group — with names and amounts.

The scan does not deliver an opinion on pricing in general. It delivers a still image of one pilot product group at one point in time: which articles, which customers, which amount. Everything in it can be looked up in your own systems.

Cases with article number and customer

Not categories but concrete cases: this article number, this customer, this period, this amount — with the derivation showing how the figure comes about.

The patterns behind them

Recurring structures in your data: prices that have not moved in years while costs rose. Spreads on the same article between customers. The gap between calculated and invoiced margin.

ROI projection

What the identified potential would be worth if you act on it — calculated on your numbers, with assumptions stated and a range rather than a single figure.

Included

  • A still image of one pilot product group — analysed at document line level
  • Identified potential, as cases by article number, customer and period
  • The recurring patterns in your data, named and evidenced with examples
  • ROI projection with assumptions, range and payback period
  • The full documentation — that is yours to keep
  • Your own access with your numbers in it, for four weeks; after that we delete your data

The scan examines a selected slice of your portfolio — deliberately limited, so you get a reliable basis for decision quickly.

The conversation is useful — even if nothing follows.

Investment & prerequisites

Clearly defined. You decide after every step.

The Margin Scan costs €950 net — a fixed price, regardless of what we find. If you go on to work with the platform, it is credited in full. Pricing for the platform stage is available on request and depends on portfolio size and data volume. No follow-up commitment: after the results meeting you decide whether to go further.

For perspective: a slice of one pilot product group with around €3M in annual revenue held roughly €19K to €44K per year in identified deviation from target margin — about €31K in the base case. How much of it you can actually move depends on contracts and terms that a data extract does not contain. The scan shows where the deviations sit — not which of them you can push through.

Answered honestly

Five thoughts you probably have right now.

"Our controlling team has this covered."

Largely yes — for top products and top customers. The pattern lives in the long tail, which no manual review can reach.

"We already have this in ERP and BI."

True — for everything that has already happened. ERP and BI are your rear-view mirror — complete for what has been invoiced. Valento shows what's building right now — before it appears in reporting.

"Our data isn't clean enough for this."

That's exactly what the Margin Scan is built for: it starts with a data audit and shows you in one week what your data can deliver — before you have to decide anything.

"What if you don't find anything?"

So far, we have found something in every engagement. But don't take our word for it: request an anonymised case study — or talk to one of our customers first. We'll make the introduction.

"Is our data safe?"

You hand over pseudonymised exports — no customer names, no raw records. EU-hosted, GDPR-compliant. Our working copies are deleted after hand-over.

Next step

30 minutes to get to know each other. Then you decide.

We show what we typically find in pricing data — and whether a Margin Scan makes sense in your situation.

30 minutes — here is how they go

You speak directly with the founding team. We show 2–3 patterns we typically find in pricing data and clarify whether a scan makes sense for your portfolio. No preparation, no pitch deck, no follow-up commitment.
